Langt Ute og Lengst Inne

By Berstad / Helgebostad / Handeland

Far Out and Deep Within (english title) is a choreographed installation that challenges sensory orientation and visual perception. Where what you see and what you think you’re seeing, become intertwined.

Far Out and Deep Within is an immersive experience made for two spectators at a time. The installation has been developed by choreographers Marie Bergby Handeland, Ingeleiv Berstad and Kristin Ryg Helgebostad in collaboration with architect Steinar Dyvik.

Picture yourself being guided along a path, entering a room, and settling onto a bench where you can lie down undisturbed throughout the duration of the performance. Within the abstract landscape you gaze into, a subtle glow slowly reveals a gathering of hands. These hands, however, do not reach for objects, be they comforting or harmful. They appear, disappear, and move at their own pace, as does the light. The all-encompassing soundscape adds a layer of intrigue to the immersive experience. The performance is a journey both into the installation and into your own imagination

Far Out and Deep Within premiered at Bøler Hovedgård in Oslo, 26 October 2023.

Far Out and Deep Within is a beautiful and exciting project that questions the very perception of art, and sheds light on how we use our senses and body to interpret and understand what we see. When combined with a willingness to build new spaces and worlds, the result is thrilling, challenging and pleasantly confusing all at the same time.”

“Never before have I been so completely transported into something so completely beyond the everyday and been able to experience it with the same everyday senses”

Audience feedback, Oslo, October 2023.

"What I experience is completely concrete, but it is as if it exists on a separate level of consciousness.”
